What more can be said: thank you. What a fantastic group of people you all are. Congrats to our Ace Face, "Citigent" Axel, all the dance contest winners, Eric Rosati who took home first prize (and an Eames LCW) in the scooter judging, Kris Manion, winner of our Best Parka award... the thank you list goes on and on!

It's On!

Huge start to the weekender. Massive turn-out by the Allez Cats Scooter Club started the night off right, with Kris and Crystal turning in great sets. Mod Fun were terrific, Bossyboots and Ty played hot sets, and the night stayed jumping right up till the end with Grover turning Delilah's into a packed dancefloor... the soulies even had to drop some talc. Surely a Delilah's first! Thank you everyone for a night to remember!!

MODchicago weekender opens June 1st at DELILAH'S. MayDay Scooter Club starts the night early with an Allez Cats Scooter Club reunion - 20 years of scootering! Representing southern soul will be "East of Edens" John & James vs. our northern "Brothers in Sound" Eric & Dan. These two Chicago staples will be going toe to toe in a benefit for Ernie K. Doe's Mother-In-Law Lounge in New Orleans, LA. Come out, support a good cause, cast your ballot, dance and drink all night!

Don Gardner in Philly

Info from Philadelphia...

Silk City Lounge and Immediate! Productions announce a rare live performance by Philly Soul/Jazz/Funk cult legend Don Gardner. Don will be singing some of his classic soul numbers with a crack, young backing band, The Solid Set, Friday, March 3, at Silk City.

Don Gardner has been a force in the soul & jazz music scenes in Philadelphia since the late 1940's. He is perhaps best know for his underground, proto-funk classic, “My Baby Likes To Boogaloo” [Tru-Glow-Town, 1968] - which remains a true floor-filler and record collector’s gem even today. And for his association with Hammond organ whiz Jimmy Smith - who backed Don in the early days.

For this rare appearance, Don will be performing with a full backing band and horn section.

For the past 2 1/2 years the Immediate! DJs have been hosting one of the best attended dance parties in Philly - playing vintage soul and freakbeat and hosting bands and guest DJs from all over the world. With the impending close of Silk City Lounge, this will be the final one – so don’t miss it!

Keeping The Faith

Sure it's 3 in the morning right now... but we're too excited to sleep. Miss Shingaling dropped a set for the ages on Chicago, the Rare $oul Millionaires gave us exactly that - the RARE SOUL that our dancefloor loves! - and Jenny J stole the show with an incredible set. We're quite sorry if you missed this one, cos the place was rammed and the dancefloor packed until they kicked us out. Too many people to thank... but we will see you ALL next week at IN THE SPIRIT

Gonna Be A Big Thing

We're quite excited to see Kym Fuller, aka Miss Shing A Ling, in town this week for the SOUL SMOKE post V-Day LADIES NIGHT. If you don't know Kym's rep as one of the nation's premier rare vinyl addicts, you may recognize her name from her association with Jazzman Records and the Hitsville Soul Club. Chicago's own Jenny J will be on the decks as well, with plenty of rare spins from 60s soul to moderns. A night not to be missed by any soulie in town, be sure to spread the word - we want Kym to return to New York with a good report on Chicago's bursting northern soul scene!

Staying In The Spirit

First In The Spirit of the year picks up right where we left off. Thanks goes to Grover for a couple of great sets - that last one came off as a burner at the end of the night: full on stomp, no remorse for the dancefloor... and we were ready for it!! The man finished his set with "Breakaway" to the delight of every fan of Wigan Casino, leaving proof that northern soul continues to grow in Chicago! All the DJs turned in top sets. One to watch in 2006: Dan Parry has been playing Etta James' "Breaking Point" to great effect. We love this tune!! He also has a cover-up, rumored to be something unexpected on Hi, to watch out for. Be sure to catch our calendar for the full line up of events in February.

Two big happenings for the soulies this week. Wednesday finds us back at Subterranean for the Rare $oul Millionaires and THE SOUL SMOKE. Son Buns brought pure dancefloor joy last time we were at Subt. Be sure to return for plenty more as he spins alongside his partner Chronic A. Then we head back to Milwaukee for part three of the fantastic North by Midwest series this Saturday, October 1st. If you haven't been to Milwaukee for NxMW yet, I'm sure you've heard the raves. The dancefloor is tiny but we keep it moving! The promoters have been told by the venue that talc will not be allowed. Please don't ruin this night for our friends in Milwaukee, wear leather-soled shoes and keep the talc in Chicago.

Smashing Time at Subterranean

It's 3am, but why wait? We can't hold back the excitement after a such a great night at Subterranean. Slow start marked by technical difficulties, but once it got going we didn't quit! Thanks to all that came out, especially some new faces, to help keep the dancefloor jumping all night long. Bun B the Lover dropped one of his most inspired sets ever, kept the MODS quite happy... We will see you back at Subterranean on the 28th with the Rare $oul Millionaires and SOUL SMOKE

Civilized Age and MODchicago this week

Perhaps your last chance to see the Civilized Age in action happens Tuesday night, as they lip-sync and shimmy on Chica-go-go!. Catch it on CAN-TV at 8:30, appearing with Waxon 7. Then on Wednesday come out to Subterranean as MODchicago and the Northern Guerrillas get together for a night of rare soul and reggae.

Once again MODchicago was treated with style and class in Milwaukee. The in-crowd up north does a great job with the details, the DJs play the hottest records in their box, the dancers keep going all night, and the booze is good and cheap. Vive Milwaukee!! We somehow survived a night filled with endless drinking courtesy of our friend Dave Monroe and rare tunes from all the djs involved. Fine hospitality from Dave, Andy Noble, and the whole crew of Milwaukee soul rebels. That crowd knows how to have a good time and "Dance, Dance, Dance"!
